If a lot of moms in Wetaskiwin receive a very pink boquet of flowers on Mother’s Day it ill be for a good cause.
Mickey’s Flowers is donating a portion of its Mother’s Day sales to breast cancer research if the arrangment includes a touch of pink in it.
“The fundraiser is raising money for breast cancer and the motto is Touch a Life with a Touch of Pink,” said oner Lynda Kovacs.
“If somebody calls us and wants a Mother’s Day order and they tell us to put some pink in it, pink flowers, pink butterflies, pink anything, we will donate a portion of the sale to breast cancer research.”
The sale has been on for the past couple of weeks and runs until Mother’s Day.
“We wanted to make it easy for people, all they have to do is say pink,” Kovacs laughed.
“We had set a target of $600 and we do actually have to register with the Cancer Foundation of Alberta, so we are hoping to reach that. So we have ordered in extra pink roses, pink mums, anything pink.”
Kovacs said the campaign was started for personal reasons.
“I just lost a very dear friend this past July due to breast cancer. I wanted to possibly help somebody else. Even if it is just one person that we reach and save a life than we have reached our goal,” she explained.
The last fundraiser the flower shop did, selling roses with a portion of the proceeds going to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Alberta, $255.
“It was very successful. We actually had people coming up off the streak saying, ‘I don’t have a sweetheart but here is $5 for the fundraiser’.”
