Jordyn Bauer is driven when it comes to finding a cure for breast cancer.
The Solon girl is only 10, but she's already raised about $2,500 for breast cancer research over the past five years.
In fact, for the past three years, Jordyn has been among the top two fundraisers for The Race, an annual competition that raises money for breast cancer research.
This year's Race is at 9 a.m. Sunday at Legacy Village in Lyndhurst. More than 1,000 are expected to participate in the one-mile run and walk.
All donations and registration fees will go to the Cleveland Clinic Taussig Cancer Institute.
For this year's Race, Jordyn, a fourth-grader at Hawken School in Lyndhurst, stepped it up a notch.
When her birthday came in November, she asked everyone who would have given her a present to make a donation to the race instead.
"The race is a big part of my life," Jordyn said. "I'd rather raise money for other people than get gifts."
Stacy Bauer, Jordyn's mother, said it was all Jordyn's idea.
"I think she realized that instead of getting a $20 trinket from family the money should be put to good use," Stacy said.
